Malawi Geisha

Malawi Geisha Light Roast

The Geisha coffee varietal has recently been planted in the Msese district, resulting in this sweet and subtly earthy coffee. The small collection of farmers who produced this 2011 crop are part of the famous Mzuzu co-operative, whose enterprise is founded on social and enviornmental sustainability and development.

We’ve opted for a very light roast profile, highlighting the innate characteristics of this unique bean. Coupled with the climatic and soil conditions of the region, the cup profile on this roast is best appreciated in filter methods, where you taste a slightly peppery and bourbon-esque flavour, of medium body and mild acidity.

As an espresso the citrus quality is complemented by up-front sweetness. Just make sure you dial the grind for a good 25-28g extraction over 30 seconds (for a double basket dosed to approximately 19.5 grams). Add milk and the sweetness cuts through with pleasing earth/straw notes (best as a five and a half ounce serve).
