In the space of a few years London has gone from being a city which commonly served insipid crappucinos to being at the cutting edge of the dynamic global coffee culture. It’s not the major coffee chains which have really stimulated Londoners, but a fresh blend of independent coffee shops and roasters, many of whom have applied the lessons learned in the pioneering antipodean coffee shop scene.Great independent coffee shops can now be found all over London. They’ve long existed in a healthy state of friendly rivalry, and at the Notting Hill Arts Club we want to emphasise the friendliness and the competition by hosting The Coffee Revolution! a soundclash where they come together to show us what their playlists are made of. We know they use the finest beans to make the most luscious lattes and richest ristrettos you could wish for, but it’s high time that we discovered whether their musical tastes are as delicious as their dark and creamy brews. Musically pretty much anything will happen, from cool electro to riotous rockin’, from dubwise reggae to nu-folk, funky disco, twisted techno and all-time dancefloor anthems. And we haven’t even mentioned the live acts yet…
Meanwhile, over at the bar the cocktail ingredients will be given an extra kick. No prizes for guessing that they’ll be serving special coffee cocktails that will be so intoxicatingly tasty you’ll want to chuck the Baileys coffee liqueur down the toilet…
At The Coffee Revolution! baristas, DJs and musicians from many of the leading independent coffee shops will be partying together, including… The Wilton Way Cafe (home to London Fields Radio), Hackney, E8; Climpson & Sons, Broadway Market, E8; Taylor Street Baristas New St, EC2; Tina, We Salute You Islington, N1; Railroad Morning Lane, Hackney E9; The Coffeesmiths Collective Leather Lane, EC1, Square Mile Coffee Poyser St, E2; The Tea and Coffee Plant Portobello Road, W11; Tapped & Packed Rathbone Place, Fitzrovia, W1; The Giant Robot Clerkenwell Road, EC1; Super Pizza Brick Lane, E1
